Mississippi bettors placed $21.2 million in wagers in August, ending a four-month period of decreases.
Mississippi residents spent $21.2 million (£18.9 million/€21.7 million) on sports betting in August, a 15.9% increase from $18.3 million in July but a 0.9% decrease from $21.4 million in August of the previous year.
Earnings also climbed from the previous month, with $2.7 million in August, an 8.0% increase from $2.5 million in July, and a 42.1% increase from $1.9 million in August 2021.
Casinos along the coast were once again the most popular destinations for Mississippi consumers, drawing in $14.2 million in bets and generating $1.7 million in total revenue for the month.
Central casinos generated a total of $4.2 million in wagers and $618,375 in revenue, while northern casinos handled $2.2 million in wagers and generated $1.7 million in revenue.
Baseball was the most popular sport among consumers this month, with players placing $8.5 million in bets at coastal casinos, $1.4 million at central casinos, and $1.3 million at northern casinos.
The Mississippi Gaming Commission also noted that the hold percentage for the month was 12.7%, down from 17.2% in August of the previous year.
