The Global Betting Integrity Association (GBIA) is extending its efforts to combat match-fixing in Brazil.
The GBIA states that this is due to Brazil’s impending legalization of sports betting, the rapid growth of the market, and past issues with match-fixing.
They reported that 60% of Brazil’s online gambling market is comprised of GBIA members, according to H2 Gambling Capital.
GBIA leader Khalid Ali expressed enthusiasm about increasing their influence in Brazil.
“We are pleased that the Brazilian government is legalizing sports betting, it’s a positive development,” Ali stated. “The GBIA aims to collaborate with the government to ensure Brazil reaps the benefits of a robust and competitive sports betting market, while simultaneously preventing match-fixing.”
Ali also mentioned that the expansion will enable them to utilize their specialized technology to combat match-fixing in Brazil.
“What distinguishes the GBIA from other systems is our ability to monitor user account activity, not just observe changes in odds,” he explained.
Duty-bound, overseen sports wagering companies have a powerful motivation to aid in the fight against match manipulation, and the IBIA aspires to be a leader in preventative measures within Brazil.
The IBIA’s advocacy proficiency, coupled with its monitoring and early warning system, will be vital in assisting Brazil to effectively prevent, examine, and bring to justice match-fixing.
In a recent analysis, the IBIA declared that they obtained 40 dubious alerts in the initial three months of this year.
