The Australian media regulator, known as the ACMA, has taken action against numerous unlawful overseas gaming platforms, directing Australian internet providers to restrict user access.

The ACMA determined that nine internet providers were in breach of the 2001 Interactive Gambling Act. This measure represents one of several initiatives underway to safeguard Australians from the risks associated with illicit online wagering.

Among the platforms recently blocked are Winning Days, 21Bit Casino, and a number of others. This is not the first instance of the ACMA implementing such measures. Commencing in November 2019, they have been actively working to restrict access to these prohibited sites, resulting in the blocking of over 640 websites.

Following the introduction of new regulations in 2017, more than 180 illegal gambling operations have ceased their activities within Australia.

The ACMA emphasizes that the mere appearance of legitimacy does not guarantee the legality of a gambling service. These platforms often lack crucial consumer safeguards, exposing Australians to potential financial detriment.

To ascertain the legality and licensing status of a gambling service in Australia, a registry is accessible on the ACMA’s website.

Internet gaming enthusiasts in Australia have access to a plethora of resources on the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) website regarding responsible gambling practices. This encompasses guidance on recognizing dubious providers, strategies for maintaining online safety, and procedures for reporting illicit gambling platforms.

Considered Australia’s digital guardian, the ACMA oversees the internet, television, and radio, ensuring order and regulation across these domains.
